Medical Director, University of Arizona Integrative Health Center
Heidi Rula, MD, one of Phoenix’s Top Doctors and a sought-after integrative medicine physician, combines the best of science based practice from conventional and complementary medicine to help her patients achieve optimal wellness.
She was drawn to integrative medicine through the frustration of not being able to adequately address the needs of her patients—including in her mother who suffered from terminal cancer—with conventional medicine. She found that integrative medicine provides a different framework to care for patients that is very individualized, and gives her tools to help patients for whom conventional medicine was previously unsuccessful.
Dr. Rula completed her medical degree at the University of Arizona and her residency in family medicine at Banner Good Samaritan in Phoenix, Ariz. After completing her Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona under the direction of Drs. Andrew Weil and Tieraona Low Dog, Dr. Rula went on to train in acupuncture through the Helms UCLA Acupuncture program. She also received training in functional medicine, a relatively new discipline in medicine that seeks out the underlying cause of an illness, and attempts to correct any imbalances as cause of biochemistry, nutrition, genetic predisposition, and environmental exposures. Her areas of special interest are women’s health, bio-identical hormone replacement, and functional medicine.
Dr. Rula is a comprehensive integrative medicine physician who has been recognized by her colleagues as one of Phoenix’s “Top Doctors” in family medicine for several years.
Dr. Rula is married to Greg Rula, who is also a physician. Together they have two school age children which keep them very busy. In her free time, Dr. Rula enjoys reading, skiing, travel, and fitness.
